RADSOUND // SOTW: LEAVE TO REMAIN – CHEATAHS
Originally published on Radsound
This week’s single comes from London quartet Cheatahs, as the latest offering from their eponymous debut album released earlier this year.
Leave To Remain is 3 minutes jam packed with the band’s signature ambient punk stylings, with flowing riffs of maximum distortion juxtaposing thunderous drums in a unbashedly shoegazey soundscape.
Over the haze, the strident vocals of frontman Nathan Hewitt conjure up lyrics illustrating the carefree caution of leaving home and “realizing the fact that you can change things if you want to”, setting up the escapism the music creates, and add a further subtle layer of brilliance to the track.
As a feedback-fuelled flash of genius, the track draws comparison to an impressively executed noise somewhere in-between the harsh new rock sounds of those like Eagulls and the dreamy Ride-esque vibes of the 90s and works out as probably the outfit’s best release yet – one more than worth getting your ears around.
Leave To Remain is out 28th April via Wichita Recordings.
