This week’s release comes from Nottingham’s electronic polymath Matt Cutler AKA Lone, and latest single from his forthcoming 6th album Reality Testing, by the name of Aurora Northern Quarter.

Driven by chiming stabs of piano and deep house grooves, the track is an anthemic summer affair showcasing the still unbeatable talent of Lone. Through layers of shimmering synths and white noise, samples of voices in the distance and snippets of conversation permeate the mix, capturing an ambience not dissimilar to Jon Hopkin’s offerings on Immunity, before breakbeats crash through the void and takeover, resulting in a sparkle of electronic prowess enough to brighten any inevitable days of summer rain.

Carrying a more laid back approach than the electronic concoctions of 2012’s Galaxy Garden LP, Aurora Northern Quarter certainly suggests a slightly different road for Lone, but one that’s just as welcome, and brilliant, as the last.

Aurora Northern Quarter is out now, with Reality Testing out on 16th June via R&S Records.
