Providing the soundtrack single this week is Australia’s Chet Faker with his electronica infused ‘1998’.

Having spent the past 3 years releasing a debut EP, working with the likes of Say Lou Lou and Flume, and remixing tracks from The Temper Trap to MS MR, Faker – better known as Nick Murphy – released his highly anticipated debut album ‘Built On Glass’ in April this year, with 1998 released as the second single.

The track sees subtly mournful vocals – “we used to be friends” – alongside salient synth grooves and snaps of electronic percussion combined by Murphy into 4 minutes of deeply soulful house that could seemingly be placed on repeat forever without losing it’s sense of bliss, and when complete with hypnotic video, 1998 is an impressive musical experience in it’s own right.
