This week’s single comes from Portsmouth’s Damn Beats with their debut single Red Light Star.

With a name somewhat most likely stereotyped into the next hip hop act, the South Coast trio throw up a pleasant surprise with sun-tinged indie pop echoing the likes of Mystery Jets and Fickle Friends.

The track is a carefree affair, driven by cutting punches of guitar riff and the bursts of vocal harmonies, whilst bass and crunching drums pump along underneath. Carrying an undeniably infectious melody over the top of it all, Lee Coneley’s lead vocals are  ensure you’ll know the words a minute into the track and prove to be effortlessly singalong. Though a short sharp offering from the trio, Red Light Star is a much needed hit of incoming summer and if the outfit’s output continues at this level, Damn Beats are sure to be more than ones to look out for over the year.
