RADSOUND // SOTW: WICKER MAN – VELUDO PLANES

Originally published on Radsound

Bringing the single goodness to Radsound this week are Southsea’s best Veludo Planes with their latest release, ‘Wicker Man’.

With a short but undeniably sweet back catalogue of largely faultless indie rock sounds so far and following the raw brilliance of debut single ‘The Snows Of Kilimanjaro’‘Wicker Man’ slides into the quartet’s sect perfectly. From the gravelly desperation within the vocals of frontman Mike Smith, to the sharp swirling guitar melodies hiding underneath storming swaggers of bass and stark crashes of cymbals, the track is grittily anthemic and conjures up sounds of The Flaming Lips and The Subways in influence – all before a countlessly catchy chorus.

With their next shows at the likes of Victorious and Forgotten Fields and the single due for release on 10th August, Veludo Planes seem set for a very good summer ahead, and even more than that if they continue putting out tracks this strong.
