Kicking off the week in fine style, this weeks single comes from Halifax’s young prodigies The Orielleswith ‘Joey Says We Got It’.

Retaining the scuzzy beauty of their past efforts, the trio provide one final instant shot of summer via reverb laden fuzzed out guitars and one slapback surfed out riff set to be stuck in your head before the track has even got going. When the vocals begin, frontwoman Esme Hand-Halford carries the outfit’s carefree charm within every lyric and the resignation of her chorus sighs – ‘you don’t know your name/hang my head in shame’ – come naturally against the crashing background of wah pedals and drums to make the track seem even more ingenious than before.

Having almost got over the shock phase of their young ages that came with previous releases, with this single The Orielles seem set to ensure the world they know they’ve grown up a bit, but that their talent still mercilessly excels past their youthful appearances. ‘Joey Says We Got It’ stands up as a single that should be roaring out of any speakers as we soak up the last few rays of sun – and for a long time after that.
